This community vice takes place most frequent than as thought because very few cases get reported to the relevant bodies. This has led to social issues such as gender based in equalities where maybe the male or the female gender feels left out (Njanic 2003). The worst part is when a certain group is neglected or rejected due to their sexual based orientation. In the recent times we have seen the increase in gender based violence which has sprouted as a result of gender discrimination. This happens in regions whereby the women are seen to the wea ker gender which deserves no representation (Willies 2010). Such discriminatory decisions have resulted to low economic growth especially in the developing nations. This is so because the women are not given the chance to play their part in the governance of their countries. This discrimination has led to the over domination of the male gender in the employment sector despite their poor performances which have led to slow economic growth of the countries. The European Union has been on the forefront this vice in the region in order to ensure equal opportunity for all the people. The major driving force in this mission is to foster economic growth in the developing economies through inclusion and equal representation in all areas of governance (Willies 2010) . The EU has made it clear of its vision to ensure that every personà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s rights are protected and respected irrespective of their race, colour, gender and sexual orientation. This strategy is aimed at improving the produc tivity of the people in the workplaces resulting from freedom of expression and an exquisite representation.2.1 Reasons why EU set up the Anti-discriminatory MeasuresTo promote equality for all. In major economies of the world today the number of women holding the top positions in governments and other political seats is very low. This has largely been blamed on the gender based discrimination whereby the woman is seen to be less effective in their duties (Gabriele 2011). This vice has been further fueled by some retrogressive cultures in the developing nations where a girl child should not get proper education. So many a times we have heard of young girls being married off to some old men in exchange for a few herds of cattle. Such diminutive cultures have led to a great gap of inequality in terms of gender based representation (Njanic 2003). The men are said to have their cake and eat it all. The EU embarked on a noble mission to educate the communities of the world of the importa nce of equal representation without any form of discrimination in order to foster economic growth (Davies 2004). The EU has established several initiatives to empower the less marginalized people in the communities from all walks of life. Both men and women in various locations experience employment discrimination but the women are the hard hit (Willies 2010). The EU in conjunction with other bodies has development the antidiscrimination protocol which states that all people are equal irrespective of the race or sexual orientation. To promote easy access to education. Education is plays a major role in the economic development of a country (Gabriele 2011). Through the education system a country gains a more resourceful workforce which competitive enough to ensure maximum utilization of resources for the benefits of all. In developing nations the EU has several education projects which are geared towards the transformation of the local societies into great managers (Davies 2004). The most renowned projects include the set-up of rescue centers for girls running away from the communities which practice female genital mutilations. This center educates the local people of the dangers of the vice to refrain from it. The major driving force to these projects is that an educated woman is an educated society (Davies 2004). The antidiscrimination measures in the education industry are meant empower the marginalized people to embrace education. It is through education that the communities are able to appreciate the cultural diversity in their nations and build their strengths from it. This further reduces the chances for discrimination within the society.Ease access to healthcare. In the wake of chronic diseases including cancer and HIV AIDs majority of the people in the world today live in fear of disclosing their status for fear of discrimination. The HIV AIDs case is the most elaborate whereby the victims live in denial without even visiting the clinics for diagnosis and medication after forth (Willies 2010). The EU policy is to maintain all the records of all patients in a confidential manner to avoid the stigma associated with publicity of oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬s medical condition. There are other minority groups such as the gays and lesbians which are protected under the EU laws (Chopin Niessen 2008). We have seen dehumanizing laws put in place in some of the developing nations to punish such groups. This inflicts stigma on the people with such orientations and the EU has put the interest of every person first (Callender Meenan 2004). The U laws demands for the respect of human rights of every individual no matter their sex, color and race. This policy is aimed at encouraging every member of such group to come out and receive medical attention. The HIV infections have been prevalent to the gay community and this policy encourages them to seek medication without fear of discrimination. This is in line with the global mission to control the number of new HIV infections by 2050.The same sex couples have overtime been shunned and harassed while going for their medical. They undergo nasty experiences such as publicizing the patientsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ health status and even refusal to provide the services to such couples. The same sex couples are also unable to access insurance covers because they are not recognized by law in many countries (Willies 2010). The EU policy addresses such issues to reduce the levels of stigmatization and promote access to healthcare. This policy addresses the transgender issues in order to ensure every person is able to receive humane medical attention like any other person.Social security. The employers in all sectors of the economy are required to make an employee contribution to the pension scheme. This money is given to the employee upon retirement in order to be able to adjust comfortably to the next phase of life (Gabriele 2011). This system has however been discriminatory against the same sex couples b ecause they are not legally recognized under the law. Such discrimination in employment is very unfair to the employees affected and demoralizes them leading to low output by the employee. There court precedence to the rights of the same sex couples and rights should not be violent and EU requires that every person has his right to choose the most suited partner (Njanic 2003). Marriage is a personal issue which must be respected by all parties in the employment industry in order to increase the levels of productivity while taking the interest of each person at heart. To ensure equality in utilization of public and private property. This has been a major bone of contention whereby the same sex couples have been denied entry into public places such as bars and restaurants, no rooms for the same sex couples and write off the discounts in major products to enjoy by the couple (Isabelle 2010). The EU has set up the relevant legal structures with the member countries to fight the menace in quest for economic prosperity and equality for all the citizens.2.2 Effectiveness of the StrategiesThe EU in conjunction with other international human rights societies has clearly set out policies to govern the service delivery in the employment sector without discrimination. This is an important course because Non legislative measures do not offer a solid guideline because they just create awareness (Isabelle 2010). This has led to the succ...

Project Management Construction Of Construction

From the world’s most magnificent structures to embankments that yield to modern day traffic ways, property owners use project management to organize complex builds that bring ideas to life. Contractors build structures in phases, beginning with project pre-planning and culminating in the erection of physical land features. For many years, construction firms documented tasks manually and with limited technology. Now, however, sweeping innovations promise to bring the construction trade up to speed with other technologically savvy industries. What Is Project Management in Construction? As outlined by the Project Management Institute, project management is the coordination and monitoring of labor and resources for the duration of a project. [1] Many disciplines practice project life cycle management, which originated in the information technology field. However, any industry that undertakes complex initiatives now uses the practice to manage resources. The construction industry applies project management to build structures for many purposes, such as: Agricultural production Public use Environmental sustainability Industrial manufacturing Institutional occupation Residential dwellings Each build consists of many interrelated tasks. Society Essay Example For Students

Society Essay Would God categorize his children? That is a question that I believe most would give a simple and direct answer: No. Would the United States categorize her children? Although the Amendment suggests that all men and women are created equal, the fact is that the citizens of the United States are constantly being classified by race, gender, and/or ethnicity. So, if indeed the United States is one nation under God, why do we continue to sort ourselves though unreasonable and unethical factors. The misinterpretation of race has shattered the American society and for all that it stands for. We should correct Americas immoral actions and assumptions that separate Gods children in hope of reforming the United States toward equality. Race has always been an American issue. When the Europeans landed on the New World and saw an indigenous person he immediately him or her a savage. In time, the original savages or inhabitants of the land were made an inferiority to the white men and later wiped out. But later on, a more deeper insatisfaction of race took place. The African-Americans were brought into the free America as slaves. They too were considered an inferiority race. The idea of race is a human creation. People of the world have given themselves names like Caucasian, Anglo, Hispanic, Asian, and African-American. The names Black and White are quite exaggerated. It is obvious that no skin color even comes close to Black or to White. Now character is a distinction between people. Lack of smart character is what led us to a history too ugly to ever repeat itself. I would say racism started when Christopher Columbus called the indian a savage. Later on, it evolved when the African-Americans came to America. They were treated with much inferiority and humiliation. They were bought and sold like old furniture. It would take years before a man with the right power and courage would stand up for these e people. This man was Abraham Lincoln. Little did he know this would divide our nation. Soon after the election of Abraham Lincoln in November, 1860, the state of South Carolina passed an ordinance of secession. The Civil War began shortly. The Union, of course, was victorious. This as the first step for the African-America towards equal treatment. Surprisingly, throughout the years, after the Civil War, blacks were still an inferiority. Segregation took place on more serious platform. Segregation can occur in almost any area of life. It is particularly evident in housing, education, an employment. Almost all systems of segregation discourage marriage between person of different racial, religious,or social groups. Segregation has not been limited to the United States, nor has discrimination against minorities. It has been practiced in various forms in many countries throughout history. The United States has ben sometimes described as a Huge Melting Pot. This means that races and cultures intermingle and live in peace. Segregation, as defined by man, is usually the result of a long period of group conflict, with one group having more influence than another. Segregation comes to be seen as rightparticularly by the dominant groupand as the only way society should be organized. Racial segregation in the modern American form started in the late 1800s. Eventhough slavery existed in the United States for more than 200 years before the Civil War. After the war, the freed N egroes suffered widespread discrimination, especially in the South. Jim Crow laws were adopted by many Southern states in the late 1800s. Jim Crow is the system of laws and customs that enforced racial segregation and discrimination throughout the United States, especially the South from the late nineteenth century to the 1960s. These segregation laws required that Whites and Negroes use separate public facilities. Even water fountain were separated for Blacks and Whites (World Book, 673). Many courts provided separate Bibles for swearing in witnesses. Imagine, a black God and a white God. The rapid spread of segregation laws through the South was supported by a series of decision by the Supreme Court of the United States. Other Jim Crow laws did not specifically mention race but were written and applied in way that discriminated against African Americans. Literacy tests and poll taxes, administered with informal

How to Conjugate Compléter, to Complete

How to Conjugate 'Complà ©ter,' to Complete As you might suspect, the French verb  complà ©ter  means to complete. Its a very useful word to add to your vocabulary. As with all verbs, when you want to say completed or completing, a conjugation is necessary. This French lesson will walk you through the process. Complà ©ter Conjugation In English, we conjugate verbs by adding an -ing or -ed ending to change from the present to the past tense. The same is done in French, though its a little more complex. Thats because there is a different infinitive ending for every subject pronoun in every tense. Complà ©ter  is a  stem-changing verb  as well. This poses a special challenge in the conjugations. While its not a big deal in the pronunciation, it matters when the word is written down. In the conjugation chart, look closely and you will notice that the accented e changes along the way. This happens often in verbs ending in -à ©_er,  such as  accà ©der  (to reach). Also, for the future tense, you can use either the grave à ¨ or acute à ©. Beyond that, the conjugations are rather simple. Study the chart and pair the proper subject pronoun with the appropriate tense. For instance, I complete is je complà ©te and we will complete is nous complà ©terez or nous complà ¨terez. Subject Present Future Imperfect je complà ¨te complà ©teraicomplà ¨terai complà ©tais tu complà ¨tes complà ©terascomplà ¨teras complà ©tais il complà ¨te complà ©teracomplà ¨tera complà ©tait nous complà ©tons complà ©teronscomplà ¨terons complà ©tions vous complà ©tez complà ©terezcomplà ¨terez complà ©tiez ils complà ¨tent omplà ©terontcomplà ¨teront complà ©taient Present Participle The  present participle  of complà ©ter  is complà ©tant. This can be used as a verb, of course, but also serves as an adjective, gerund, or noun in some circumstances. Passà © Composà © and Past Participle The  passà © composà ©Ã‚  is a common form of the past tense in French. Its formed by conjugating the  auxiliary verb  avoir  to match the subject, then attaching the  past participle  complà ©tà ©. To put this together, I completed is jai complà ©tà © and we completed is nous avons complà ©tà ©. The  ai and avons  are conjugations of  avoir. More Simple  Conjugations There may be times when the action of completing is uncertain. That is when you might employ either the subjunctive or conditional verb forms. In literature, you may see the passà © simple or imperfect subjunctive in use. Subject Subjunctive Conditional Passà © Simple Imperfect Subjunctive je complà ¨te complà ©teraiscomplà ¨terais complà ©tai complà ©tasse tu complà ¨tes complà ©teraiscomplà ¨terais complà ©tas complà ©tasses il complà ¨te complà ©teraitcomplà ¨terait complà ©ta complà ©tà ¢t nous complà ©tions complà ©terionscomplà ¨terions complà ©tà ¢mes complà ©tassions vous complà ©tiez complà ©teriezcomplà ¨teriez complà ©tà ¢tes complà ©tassiez ils complà ¨tent complà ©teraientcomplà ¨teraient complà ©tà ¨rent complà ©tassent To use  complà ©ter  in an exclamation, use the imperative form. When doing this, you can skip the subject pronoun, so rather than tu complà ©te, you can simply say complà ©te. Imperative (tu) complà ¨te (nous) complà ©tons (vous) complà ©tez

Field Trip Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Field Trip - Essay Example The mosque was built in 2005 by the great and famous architect Allan Abbas and Luna Construction (Khalidi, 2012). The mosque has several striking features that draw religious feelings to visitors like me. The most striking feature about this mosque is that it has a tall tower known as the Minaret. In between the Minaret are four loudspeakers, which I learned are used to summon the members of the Mosque to prayers. Merely seeing the Minarets and the loud speakers in between certainly brings the religious feeling of a Muslim territory. In addition, the mosque has a beautiful dome-shaped roof protruding slightly above the building. Therefore, by looking at the dome, one can easily point out that it is a religious place. In fact, the dome is written in a verse taken from the Quran, which brings the feeling that it is indeed a religious place. In addition, the architect employed several Islamic artifacts on the building including decorations, as well as Islamic symbols such as those of Pr ophet Muhammad, which makes it easy for a visitor to point out that the Mosque is indeed a religious place (Khalidi, 2012). In this regard, I can attest that architects Paul Bertin and David Donnellon designed the mosque in a manner that makes it look as a religious and a place of worship. Upon entering the worship service, I realized that the way the Catholics conducts their services is quite different from that of Muslims. Firstly, not all members of the congregation are allowed to enter the mosque with shoes or any other footwear apart from the disabled. As a result, every member of the congregation is required to remove the footwear followed by washing of the feet and hands before proceeding to the mosque. This is done because Islam believes that the Mosque is a clean and holy place. Surprisingly, the most has no chairs where people can sit. Instead, everyone in the church, except the elderly and the disabled sit on a large carpet laid on the floor. It was also interesting to no te that women are not supposed to mix with their male counterparts in one room as Catholics and Christians does. Instead, women have a different room within the Mosque where they gather for prayers. However, the prayers in both rooms are guided by a single Imam or Sheik in the men’s room. This implies that women follow the prayers electronically on speakers provided in their room. Once the congregants have gathered in the Muslim, an Imam or Sheik guides the prayers from the pulpit. Here the Quran, which is the Islamic holy book, is read to the Congregants. This is followed by a lengthy preaching based on the verse read in the Quran. In between the prayers, the Imam or Sheik guides the congregants through recitation of the Muslim prayer known as Salat (Khalidi, 2012). As the Muslims, recite this prayer, every member in required to bow down on their knees humbly. This is followed by going down and kissing the floor a number of times during prayers. Once the prayers are done, th e members of the congregation are required to give money, just like the Christians do in the Church. Each member is required to contribute according to what God has blessed him or her. Being the day of tithing, I realized that Muslims are required to give a minimum tithe of 2.5%, as opposed to the 10% minimum requirement for Christians. Muslim call this tithing ‘

Hazardous waste management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 3

Hazardous waste management - Essay Example In line with this, it is common place for industries to reclaim, or recover spent solvents such as acetones from waste products. In addition, industries reclaim some metals from hazardous waste materials from industrial facilities to recover metals such as lead, which is the most reclaimed metal from industrial waste (EPA, 2013). It is essential to point out that recycling of hazardous waste does not only involve the aspect of reclaiming useful products from waste materials. However, industries also reuse the waste that they produced in their manufacturing processes. For example, industries that deal with smelting of zinc reuse the hazardous waste products they produce during the processing of zinc. In this regard, these industries return the emission control dust into the furnace that was primarily smelting the zinc (EPA, 2013). In effect, these industries reuse this waste product and ensure that the hazardous waste does not pollute the environment. On the other hand, it is vital to point out that hazardous waste products can be used directly into the land, which makes the land fertile, or incorporated into other products that make fertilizer (EPA,

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Essay Example for Free

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Essay Jacqueline Lee Bouvier was the great great-granddaughter of â€Å"a potato-famine Irish immigrant† who worked as a superintendent of the public schools of New York City (TV. com, 2007). Her father was a handsome Wall Street banker by the name of John Bouvier III (â€Å"Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis†). She spent the early years of her life between East Hampton and New York City. Attending some of the finest private schools, Jacqueline learned to ride as well as write stories and poems. As a matter of fact, she won an equestrian championship at the tender age of five (TV. com). She was an artist to boot, and she knew ballet. Jacqueline had a sister with whom she arrived later in Newport near Washington D. C. where her stepfather’s home was located (â€Å"Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy†). During the depression, her parents had lost their wealth and divorced (â€Å"Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis†). In 1947, Jacqueline was named â€Å"the Debutante of the Year (â€Å"Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy†). Despite her â€Å"social success,† she desired to continue studying (â€Å"Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy†). As a student of Vassar, she had the opportunity to travel far and wide. She spent an entire year in France before her graduation (â€Å"Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy†). After all, in her youth Jacqueline had dreamt of taking up photography as a profession in France. She had also dreamt of living an absolutely bohemian life in Paris (Melloy, 2006). All of her dreams were not realized. Nevertheless, Jacqueline grew to love the people of France (â€Å"Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy†). She also got to work as an Inquiring Photographer for The Washington Times-Herald. This was her very first job. When Jacqueline won a writing contest that was sponsored by Vogue magazine, she was offered the chance to work with Vogue as well. But, she turned down her prize offer to work with the magazine (TV. com). Besides John F. Kennedy and the rich Greek-Argentine, Aristotle Onassis, whom she married a few years after the death of the President Kennedy, Jacqueline is known to have dated Frank Sinatra, Gianni Agnelli, Marlon Brando, Peter Lawford, Warren Beatty, William Holden, John Husted, Jr. , and Maurice Tempelsman (â€Å"Who is dating Jacqueline Onassis,† 2007). No wonder she was considered the most beautiful and glamorous lady in the United States (Melloy). Besides, she was a rather enchanting lady as far as her spoken language was concerned. Some of her interesting quotes include the following: (1) â€Å"I dont think there are any men who are faithful to their wives;† (2) â€Å"There are two kinds of women, those who want power in the world and those who want power in bed;† (3) The one thing I do not want to be called is First Lady. It sounds like a saddle horse;† (4) â€Å"I always wanted to be some kind of writer or newspaper reporter. But after college I did other things (TV. com). † The wedding dress that Jacqueline wore the day she married Kennedy is known to have taken two months to tailor and fifty â€Å"yards of ivory silk taffeta (TV. com). † Despite her love for Kennedy, the latter is known to have had a large number of flings with different women. He also gave to Jacqueline a â€Å"dose of Chlamydia,† which she believed was responsible for her miscarriage, followed by a premature delivery of a child who did not survive (Melloy). Melloy suggests that Jacqueline’s non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma toward the end of her life may also have been caused by Chlamydia. What is more, it was not just Kennedy who had betrayed her. Jacqueline experienced physical abuse during her marriage with Aristotle Onassis. Thus, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was a glamorous and a tragic figure at the same time (Melloy). The two peaces of poetry I have studied by Seamus Heaney include Essay

The two peaces of poetry I have studied by Seamus Heaney include Follower and The Early Purges. Heaney's poems both relate back to his younger, adolescent life. In the poem 'Early purges', he describes young kittens being drowned on the farm. His maturity is shown when he says with perception, "And now, when shrill pups are prodded to drown, I just shrug, ' Bloody pups' ". But we are shown that he is still careless now, as well in a casual way by saying "I just shrug". He is also unsympathetic, and justifies his actions like Dan. He is now older, looking back and changed. The language used by Heaney also expresses the fact that little was thought of these so-called nuisances. He says they are 'slung' and Dan Taggart describes them as 'scraggy wee shits'. This shows how unsympathetic he was and how the kittens needn't be cared about. Seamus Heaney also tries to describe the habitual drowning of small kittens. Again, he tries to use language to appeal more and give us a better personal picture of events. For instance, when describing the kittens, just after their death, he quite brightly says, 'Like wet gloves they bobbed and shone till he sluiced them out on the dunghill, glossy and dead'. Glossy and dead are two contrasting words - 'glossy' is a healthy appearance, but its only because the water drowned the kittens, where the word 'death' comes in. Heaney goes on to say 'watching the three sogged remains turn mealy and crisp as old summer dung'. This is very imagery language, and maybe quite disturbing, although I think it adds more atmosphere to the poem, because summer is supposed to be happy and fresh, whereas dung isn't. And 'turn mealy and crisp', which gives the impression that he tried to pr... ...side with Heaney. The arguments put up by Dan Taggart, such as "Sure isn't it better for them now?" are seen to be realistic later on in the poem when Heaney says, "It makes sense". The images which he uses, however, encourage us to sympathise with him, such as "Suddenly frightened, for days I sadly hung round the yard" where we picture a small boy frightened at the power of adults over the poor helpless animals. This poem again, like "Follower" shows that life in the country can be very difficult, especially if you have to kill small animals, but if you work hard, then the farm will run better. Both poems have main themes, and they are very similar to eachother. It is all about the hard work involved in running a farm, the relationship between the father and son, and the expectation that profession and skills will be carried on throughout the family.

What We Talk About When We Talk About Love

Justin Goings Debra Dockter English Composition October 12th 2012 â€Å"The definition of love may be unique to the individual, if it can be defined at all† The feeling you have when you first look upon your new born child, the radiant warmth in your face when you say â€Å"I do† at the altar, or the divine feeling in your chest when you pray. Every one of these situations could be used to describe love. Its an emotion so richly embedded into our minds, that every single one of us can say they’ve experienced it in their lives. Some might even say they’ve molded their existence around it.However, while we are all familiar with love, the situations in which we encounter it are so diverse that the definition has become unique to the individual person. â€Å"What We Talk about When We Talk about Love† does an amazing job of forcing the reader to wonder what this feeling really means to them. What starts out as a normal conversation between four friends almost turns into a harsh debate on the elusive nature of love. Of the four people in the story the person that appears to struggle with the topic the most is Mel. The author seems to use a bit of symbolism in his story by making Mel a cardiologist.Almost as if saying because he is a heart doctor, he would have plenty to say about matters of the heart. Mel’s original position is that real love is nothing less than spiritual love, but he quickly becomes unsatisfied with his original answer. Seeing the affection between Nick and Laura makes him analyze the question even further. He eventually goes into a story about an elderly couple that was gravely injured in a car accident and it looks like he is going to have a strong point, yet somehow he can’t exactly describe what it is.Despite Mel’s knowledge though, he still struggles to find a clear answer. My favorite example in the story is when Mel is trying to explain sentimental love. He explains that he and Terri s ay that they love each other, yet they would both say that they have loved other people before them. That the â€Å"saving grace† is when one of them dies, the other might grieve for a while, but will eventually love again. All of their love would just be a memory, if it was even that. This helps to illustrate that love is such an important part of people’s lives because that we are able to move on nd love again after tying such important emotional feelings with someone. But in relation to the story it leaves you feeling as if love has no meaning. Regardless of it being the saving grace he says it is, the thought seems to disturb Mel because at this point on he displays obvious aggression towards his wife. Nick, the narrator of the story, doesn’t seem to have to many vocal opinions on what love actually means to him, but it’s his observations or actions that really seem to give away his stance. For example throughout the story he is constantly making gest ures to his wife.Such as resting his hand on his her thigh, or kissing her hand. He is always showing his affection, leading you to believe that love for him and Laura is strictly sentimental. It’s the only points in the story where I feel love was actually expressed and felt. It almost seems like the author is trying to say that even though they may never reach an agreement on what love is, actions are the only thing that matters in the end. The only character that touches on the fact that love is different from person to person is Mel’s wife, Terri. She explains that her ex-husband loved her so much that he tried to kill her. Everyone else seems mortified by her story and they try their best to convince her that abuse is not love. However her opinion is important in explaining the diversity of the emotion, because even though her ex husband expressed it in a very unhealthy manner, all the characteristics of love were there. Even though no one else shares her feelings with the example, she’s the only one with a solid idea of what it means.Nick and Laura only show what they feel about love by touching each other gently, or by saying â€Å"I love you†. And Will talks like he has a lot of ideas on what the definition is, but by the end of the story you realize he’s just as confused as everyone else. Terri is the only person that can actually express a view of love from personal experience. The sun setting in the story, in combination with the drinking seems to bring a loss of clarity on the subject as the friends continue to talk.Nick notes in the beginning that â€Å"sunlight filled the kitchen from the big window behind the sink† and the general mood of the party seems to be pretty happy. However as the conversation becomes a bit more complex and dark, Nick notes that the light in the kitchen is fading. The guests even seem to become more content to letting Will rant on. By the end of the story it is nighttime and no on e is left talking. You’re left with an almost hopeless feeling and begin to wonder if any of them actually really love each other. What We Talk about When We Talk about Love† was a story that I actually enjoyed reading a few times to try and understand. I believe that it illustrates the true diversity of the emotion and is a story to really make you think. Even though by the end you feel like love is almost hopeless, it is after a bit of reflection that you begin to realize the complexity of the word. It might not have an exact definition, and maybe it’s because of the inadequacy of the human language, but everyone will have a special example of what love really means to them.
